About Us
REACH Equity Lab is a student-led research initiative founded at the University of Texas at Austin and now running across three university chapters, focused on health disparities across racial, wage, and healthcare access gaps. We train emerging researchers, produce reproducible evidence from open public data, and help partners translate that evidence into practice.
The work is student-led, and we hold it to the standard we would want applied to anyone else's: careful analysis, done in the open, that other people can check and reuse.
Mission
Advance equity by producing clear, data-informed research on the disparities that shape health outcomes, and by making that research usable to the people positioned to act on it.
What REACH means
Research in Epidemiology, Access, and Community Health.
- R: Research. We ground every initiative in careful inquiry and evidence-driven analysis, working from public and openly licensed datasets.
- E: Epidemiology. We apply epidemiologic methods to quantify disparities across populations and identify modifiable risk factors.
- A: Access. We examine barriers to care, affordability, and the pathways people use to seek help.
- C: Community. We align findings with lived experience and local context, and prioritize outputs communities can act on directly.
- H: Health. Every project is oriented toward practical recommendations for clinicians, policymakers, and advocates.
How we govern the work
These are the standards REACH holds itself to in how it credits and publishes work.
- Evidence-based authorship. Authorship follows ICMJE criteria and documented contribution, not seniority or title.
- Nothing published early. Work in progress, submitted manuscripts, and prospective collaborations do not appear on this site.
